We are Paco and Olga.
www.disfrutalaplaya.com is a guide to the beaches, coves and swimming spots of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. You can look them up by area, by the facilities they have, or by name. On Mallorca there is also a list of recommended beaches for anyone after variety and beauty, no matter how long the walk is, what facilities there are, or how big the beach is.
The islands have a great many swimming spots. We have included the ones that seemed most interesting, either because they are well known or because local people use them. All of them are places that get at least some visitors.
No organisation has ever helped us: we have done this on our own, without being paid, to encourage the care of our beaches. This site is not run by the Conselleria or by any public authority.
How we name the beaches
- First, the name given by the authorities and the signs at the beach.
- Where the authorities have not given a name, on Mallorca we have followed the general map of Mallorca by Mascaró Pasarius, and on Formentera the name known locally. On Menorca and Ibiza we use the same rule: the sign and, if there is none, the name used by local people.
- If we could not find a name, we use the nearest street, the nearest housing development, or we add “petit” or “petita” to the nearest beach or cove.
- When the names contradicted each other, we kept the one local people use, by popular tradition.
